Eczema; How to stop the itch without prescriptions
81Do you suffer from Eczema? Do you go to the doctor and all they do is give you stronger and stronger steroid cream? Does it help for only the amount of time that you are on the prescription and then come right back? These are common problems for people with moderate to severe eczema. I have had eczema for 23 years and this has been a huge problem for me. I got sick of being on expensive medications that only worked for as long as I used them. So I found other ways to treat it that can be used on a daily basis that has no side effects. One way is to drink water constantly it really does hydrate your skin and will keep it somewhat at bay. Flax seed or flax seed oil is said to help it contains omega 3 which is what someone with eczema lacks, although I have never used it so I don't know personally. Also anything with dead sea salt or dead sea mudd. I know that it doesn't sound very good but it works. If you sit in a tub of water with a combination of dead sea salt and tea tree oil it will calm the itch, which everyone with eczema knows will make it spread. It has to be DEAD SEA SALT it has so many essential nutrients that people with eczema lack. After you take a bath with that then use a cream with shea butter in it or you can use one with emu oil in it. Yes, emu oil. Again doesn't sound so great but is a god send for the itching.
Things that you thought that you knew "dove soap is great for sensitive skin". WRONG! Dove soap is nothing more then a chemical bar. The following is a list of ingredients that are listed on an MSDS for Dove soap with 1/4 lotion.
Fragrance/perfumes, Stearic Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, 2,6-Di-t-butyl-p-cresol (BHT), Sodium stearate, Trisodium etidronate, Sodium chloride, Water, Sodium tallowate, Titanium dioxide, Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Coconut fatty acids, Sodium cocoate, Sodium cocoyl isethionate, Cocoamidopropylbetaine, Sodium palm kernelate, Sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate.
Personally, I use anything that is fragrance/perfume free and that is all natural. Atleast you know that you are not washing with chemicals that can dry your skin and make it worse.
Alot of times it is also brought on by stress or outside irritants. Smoking can contribute, laundry detergant ( I have found that baby laundry detergant is the best), NO BLEACH, no fabric softner, dryer sheets maybe, but get the ones without fragrance, and no creams with fragrance. I have heard that it can also be brought on by a food allergy. I was told to keep a food diary and document what you have eaten with you flare ups. I personally have not tried this but from what I have heard I works.
There are many different reasons that it flares and many different ways to treat it. I am NOT an expert or doctor I am just a poor soul suffering with eczema and my little girl is starting to go through the same thing. I would say that what I have told you is worth a shot at this point what do you have to lose? Good Luck and I hope that this helps!

I had the same problem when I was a kid . All I can remember is the blue light that I would have to lay under ,my face and parts of my body was raw , now u can not tell any more that I had eczema , my body is smooth all over with no scars.. Thanks to my parents and the blue light .
Why would you place your kid in bleach?
RD - there are studies that show a small amount of bleach in the bath water can help with a child's eczema. It kills whatever bacteria may be contributing to it.
I have given my son two so far and it seems to help for a few days. Note: My doctor said don't give more than two a week (I put a 1/4 for a tub of water) and I also make sure I rinse my son off with warm water after he soaks.
